La mala hierba / Wild weed
By one of the authors of Carmen Mola trio. “Bad land, poor land. Nothing could grow there. Nothing good.”
After losing his job, Jacobo is forced to start a new life in Portocarrero, a village in the desert of Almería. But the wasteland holds no better luck for him: one night, strangers break into his old farmhouse and kill his wife Irene. During the attack, he is shot in the lung and falls into a coma.
When he wakes up, he is confronted with a devastating truth: police investigations suggest that it was his own daughter, Miriam, only fourteen years old, who ordered his murder.
With the help of Miriam’s lawyer Nora, Jacobo will try to discover what really happened. As he advances in his enquiries, new suspicions will loom over the community of Portocarrero, where no one seems to be innocent.
We are, without doubt, before one of the authors who has most to say in the current panorama of the noir genre in Spain.
